Skaters earn medals at Ice Classic

Golds in Boise

Sun Valley Figure Skating Club members attended the Boise Ice Classic on Saturday, April 21. Joyce Chan, Isabella Bourret, Emma Stuessi, Alex Stuessi, Claire Stickney and Saba Grossman won gold medals in contested events, with Chan and Emma Stuessi earning gold in two events each.

Bella Martua, one of the club's youngest members, skated uncontested and was awarded a gold medal for her performance.

Alex Harten was the highest level Sun Valley skater at the competition. She competed in Novice Ladies Free Skate, winning silver. Chan and Bourret also competed at qualifying levels. Chan won gold in both Intermediate Ladies Frees Skate and Free Skate Short Program. Bourret won Juvenile Compulsory Moves and took bronze in Juvenile Free Skate.

Emma Stuessi competed up a level against Chan, Bourret, and a Boise skater in Juvenile/Open Juvenile/Intermediate Artistic. Chan won silver and Stuessi bronze, with Bourret fourth.

At the Boise meet, Emma Stuessi was the highest non-qualifying level skater. She won gold in both of her events—Pre-Juvenile Free Skate and Pre-Juvenile Showcase. Alex Stuessi and Blake Letourneau competed at the Preliminary level. Stuessi won gold, and Letourneau, silver, in Showcase. In Artistic, Stuessi won silver, and Letourneau placed fourth; in Free Skate, Stuessi and Letourneau placed fourth and fifth respectively.

Skating at the Pre-Preliminary level, Claire Stickney captured gold in Artistic, and Sheldon Gentling took bronze in Showcase and placed fourth in Free Skate. At the No Test level, Tatum Fuller won bronze in FreeSkate and placed fourth in Artistic, and Antonia Avery won bronze in both Artistic and Showcase and placed fourth in No Test Free Skate.

Saba Grossman was the highest level Sun Valley competitor in the Basic Skills events. Grossman won a gold medal in the Free Skate, BasicMusic Event, and Bella Martua took home gold for her Basic 3 Basic Program.

A U.S.F.S. test session on Friday preceded the competition. Grace Hoffman passed Novice Moves in the Field and Preliminary Free Skate. Grace Cleveland and Jessica Blackburn passed Preliminary Moves in the Field.
