Poor decision by Mayor Briscoe

I think new Sun Valley Mayor DeWayne Briscoe is performing his job poorly. He has suspended with pay Sun Valley Fire Chief Jeff Carnes for no stated or discernable reason.

Chief Carnes has served Sun Valley and, in mutual aid, Ketchum, Hailey and Bellevue, admirably for decades. His crew admires him and as a longtime reporter here and secretary of the Local Emergency Planning Committee, I've been an admirer of the chief's as well, for as long as I've known him. Jeff is a model fire chief—ask any of his peers.

I voted for Mayor Briscoe but now I may come to regret that. Keeping a dedicated and longstanding public employee on paid leave and in the dark about why he's off the job is both poor judgment and poor service to the city of Sun Valley.
