Ketchum police reported that the accident occurred around 5:45 a.m. when Mowat was crossing Washington Avenue eastbound and was struck by a red 2007 Ford Focus driven by Marla R. Brauburger, 42, of Richfield. According to a news release, Brauburger, who was westbound, was making a left turn onto Washington Avenue when the accident occurred.

"It was dark at the time of the collision and Brauburger stated she did not see Mowat because he was wearing dark clothing," the press release states.

Police reported that Brauburger was issued a citation alleging "failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk."
