Dominant WRHS tennis completes first league swing

Wolverines down Minico 11-1


Wood River High School's tennis team swept boys' singles and won all the doubles matches Thursday in an 11-1 Great Basin Conference win over the Minico Spartans that debuted the Wolverine home season in Hailey.

The Wolverine No. 1 boys' doubles team of Josh Morell and Cole Caminiti played nearly error-free tennis in their efficient 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Hailey's racquet players clashed with Burley on Tuesday at Rupert to complete their first round of Great Basin league play. Results from last Thursday's home meet:

WR 11, Minico 1

Boys' singles: 1—Karl Wilander (WR) 6-0, 6-0 over Toni Lopez (M). 2—Quentin Dowdle (WR) 6-0, 7-5 over Derek Wilkins (M). 3—Michael Niedrich (WR) 6-0, 6-0 over Casey Stevenson (M).

Girls' singles: 1—Kim Barnes (M) 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 over Lily Richards (WR). 2—Alex Feldman (WR) 6-1, 6-1 over Stacie Sanderson (M). 3—Tate Morell (WR) 6-3, 6-1 over Crystal Tovar (M).

Boys' doubles: 1—Josh Morell-Cole Caminiti (WR) 6-0, 6-0 over Willem Bradford-Travis Halverson (M). 2—Max Mauldin-Chase Hutchinson (WR) 6-2, 6-2 over Abraham Ortiz-Fernando Santana (M).

Girls' doubles: 1—Sloan Storey-Erin Murphy (WR) 6-2, 6-1 over Monica Farfan-Keandra Harris (M). 2—Audrey Brassil-Alex Taylor (WR) 7-5, 6-3 over Lyndie Mittelsteadt-Liza Plitkova (M).

Mixed doubles: 1—Stephen Pfeiffer-Margaret Reutter (WR) 6-0, 6-2 over Jakub Dvorak-Bailey Staley (M). 2—Raleigh Grossbaum-Hannah Baybutt (WR) 6-0, 6-1 over Garrett Christensen-Kayleann Hawks (M).
