Former GM plans to cut back on day-to-day involvement

Wally Huffman, who has worked for Sun Valley Co. since 1969, is taking on a less-involved role with the company.

Wally Huffman, Sun Valley Co.'s director of resorts and resort development, will begin a redefined role with the company later this spring.

Huffman said that as of June 1 he will no longer be involved with the operational aspects of the company. Instead, he will focus on real estate development in Sun Valley and other properties owned by Earl and Carol Holding.

He said he's been emotionally carrying the responsibility for the resort's operations for more than 40 years.

"I'm ready to let go of that and concentrate on real estate and entitlement," he said. "I like to say I'm going from three full-time jobs to just one."

Huffman said he will retain an office in Sun Valley and be involved with development projects such as the White Clouds homes.

"I'll be jousting at the municipal windmill for the next several years," he said. "[But] I'm looking forward to having more time with my family."

Prior to becoming Sun Valley's director of resorts and resort development, Huffman served for 30 years as the company's general manager, in charge of day-to-day operations. He stepped into the new role when the company hired Tim Silva to take the general manager role in 2009. Huffman first started working for Sun Valley Co. in 1969.

Earl Holding, who has vast assets including Sinclair Oil and Sun Valley Co., owns several major resort properties in Wyoming, Utah and Idaho.
