Ketchum needs transit hub

I am writing in support of the proposed transit hub. I spent several years working in the transit business and have some familiarity with these operations. It is clear that transit hubs work; they increase demand by making bus operations easier to use and understand. Furthermore, visitors to Sun Valley expect convenient transit systems—this is not an optional service for a resort economy.

It's sensible to have the transit hub in the downtown core. Parking is a legitimate concern and I'm hopeful that an accommodation can be made to preserve parking for businesses that are directly affected. That being said, even if some parking is eliminated to improve the quality of transit services, it's likely that the overall vitality of the downtown core will rise.

Lastly, for those who do not use transit, I would encourage you to nonetheless support this project. Most transit initiatives nationwide are approved when voters are asked to fund such operations. This is not because most people ride transit (only a small fraction of Americans do), but because voters believe that other people will use it, thus benefiting them indirectly.

A transit hub in the downtown core will increase ridership and visibility, thus maximizing the utility of the funding that our community already provides Mountain Rides.
