Tidwell’s 40 lifts Sturges into title game

Outlaw League tourney

By now, the Sun Valley Auto Club/Growing Concern men's basketball team is thoroughly convinced that Bryan Tidwell can score plenty of points.

Tidwell pumped home 40 points Wednesday night leading the Sturges Productions team to a 82-67 victory that eliminated the Cinderella Sun Valley Auto/Growing Concern cagers from the Outlaw League city tournament in Hailey.

In February, Tidwell tallied what is believed to be an Outlaw League record of 57 points in a 124-78 Sturges triumph over Sun Valley Auto/Growing Concern on the same Community Campus floor. Tidwell was the leading scorer at 11.8 ppg for the 2009 Wood River High School boys' basketball team.

The outcome in Wednesday's semi-final game of the Blaine County Recreation District men's basketball city tournament gave No. 2-seeded Sturges (14-2) another shot at defending champion and top-seeded Jivaro Headhunters (14-1). That championship contest was played Thursday night.

Six-time winner Jivaro, an Outlaw League tournament finalist 11 of the last 12 years, needed only one victory Thursday for its fourth title in five years. Sturges had to beat Jivaro twice to force a deciding game of the 10-team double elimination tournament.

But No. 8 SV Auto/Growing Concern (9-10) was the team that got its money's worth—playing seven games in the tourney and winning five times including Tuesday's 68-52 victory that eliminated No. 9 Power Engineers (5-12). Josh Perron (20) paced SV Auto in that loser bracket victory.
