A jury trial has been set for June 12 for a 45-year-old Hailey man charged with felony driving under the influence.
James Chandler Hill pleaded not guilty to the crime at arraignment Feb. 12 in Blaine County 5th District Court. Hill, represented by the Roark Law Firm under its public defender contract with Blaine County, remains free on $5,000 bond.
Hill was charged with a felony because of two recent misdemeanor DUI convictions. Idaho law provides that a person with two misdemeanor DUI convictions within the past 10 years can be charged with a felony upon a third arrest.
Hill's latest arrest occurred at about 1:20 a.m. on Dec. 18, 2011, near the intersection of Fifth and Main streets in Ketchum.
According to court records, Hill was also convicted of DUI in Blaine County in 2007 and again in 2008.
In the first conviction, Hill was sentenced to three days in jail with the allowance that two of the days could be spent in the Blaine County Sheriff's Office work program. He was also fined $600, had his driver's license suspended for 120 days and was placed on probation for 18 months.
In the 2008 conviction, court records state that Hill was sentenced to two days in jail, fined $600, had his driver's license suspended for 120 days, placed on probation for 18 months and ordered to perform 20 hours of community service.
