Firefighter helps combat leukemia

Nic Turco, born in Hailey and a graduate of Wood River High School, participated Sunday in the Scott Seattle Firefighter Stairclimb fundraiser event benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Turco is now a student at the University of Idaho and volunteers with the Moscow Volunteer Department.

Firefighter teams traveled from as far as New Zealand for the event. Participants race in full combat gear and self-contained breathing apparatuses to the top of Seattle's Columbia Center. At 69 stories and 788 vertical feet, the Columbia Center is the tallest building in Seattle.

Turco placed 78 out of 1,551 participants, sixth in his age group and first on the Moscow team.

Anyone interested in pledging support to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through the Scott Seattle Stairclimb event can do so through March at www.llswa.org.
