New arrival ‘at home’ in Hailey

I just recently was relocated to Hailey, having never heard of this town or area or the Wood River Valley in my entire life. What a lovely surprise to find these magnificent hills, mountains, hiking area and clear streams.

But I am writing today to express my appreciation for a different kind of beauty reflected here in Hailey. It is reflected not by the awesome clear and crystal sunny days, but in the faces and kindness expressed by the merchants, vendors and the people I meet just walking around town. I could share with you the wonderful reception I received on my first day in church when I felt the warmness of being back home. Or the day an elder gentleman was overwhelmed by his purchase at a local second-hand store and received a hug from the clerk, and a kindly arm for an escort to his car.

I could tell you about not having enough money for a purchase of necessities and a stranger helped make up the balance while the cashier helped with the "figures" so I could take my purchases home.

I think that in such a time as this, with terror overseas, combat occurring in places we never knew on the map and yet our children fighting for freedom there, and the economics of the world challenging everyone to make their ends stretch to meet, we need to be reminded of beauty whenever we see it.

Thank you, Hailey, for a kindly spirit and your graciousness here. I am home.
