Lady Wolverines lose in extra innings to Buhl

WRHS gets nipped, 13-12

Express Staff Writer

The Lady Wolverines took a hard loss when they traveled to Buhl on Tuesday, March 13.

The game went back and forth all day as Wood River pushed Buhl to eight innings of play. However, the Wolverines lost 13-12.

The loss was Wood River's first of the season.

Wood River (1-1) had a monster fifth inning, scoring six runs and making the game interesting, but couldn't hold on due to costly mistakes. Buhl was able to capitalize on Wood River's errors, which totaled six for the day.

Sophomore Shelby Cooper had a good day at the plate, leading Wood River in hits by going 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run.

Senior Devan Atkinson went 1 for 4 with two runs scored, and freshman Cicely Peavey also scored two runs on the day.

Wood River as a team totaled 10 hits. It was a strange day for Wood River's leadoff hitter, K.T. Martinez, who went 0 for 4 on the day, but drove in two RBIs.

The loss was attributed to senior Britney Bradley, who had two strikeouts and three earned runs. But it was the fielding errors that hurt Wood River most.

"Her defense committed [some] crucial errors," assistant coach Dick Coleman said.

Freshman Ashley Hicks got her first varsity hit of the game with an extra base hit up the middle for an RBI.

The Lady Wolverines travel to Canyon Ridge in Twin Falls on Thursday, March 22. Wood River makes its home debut on Tuesday, April 3, against Canyon Ridge.
