From the church to the bars

Irish traditions abound: food, music and beer pong

The Paddy Wagon band is so popular on St. Patrick's Day that last year, fans followed them as they traversed the valley, making appearances at all the hot spots. This year, the band decided to use a bus and invite their fans to pub crawl with them.

Paddy Wagon's Ann Brandish said 50 people snatched up the $20 tickets selling out the bus and that they will be sharing the spoils with Hailey's Senior Connection at noon today.

Paddy Wagon will play first at Mahoney's in Bellevue on Saturday, March 17, at 1 p.m. and then shoot up to Ketchum to perform at Lefty's at about 3 p.m. and then the Casino, then down to the Sun Valley Brewery by roughly 6 p.m. and wrap up the evening at The Muleshoe Tavern in Hailey at 8:30 p.m. Up a Creek will play out the evening from 7:30 p.m. in Bellevue at Mahoney's. Hoodwink will perform across the street at the Silver Dollar Saloon at 9 p.m. There's no cover and there will be a free shuttle home anywhere in Bellevue or Ketchum.

While in Ketchum, celebrants should consider squeezing in a little fundraising beer pong at Whiskey Jacques,' with proceeds going to the Hunger Coalition. Signups start a 3 p.m.

For those who don't want to leave Ketchum, Andy Frasco and the UN starts playing at Whiskey Jacques' at 8 p.m. with a $5 cover charge. The Roosevelt Grille will feature the music of Marcus Eaton around 10 p.m. for $5.

After Paddy Wagon's show at the Sun Valley Brewery, Daryl Hance will take over for the rest of the night. The Hailey Hotel will have DJ Marlin.

Meals of corned beef and cabbage and Irish stew can be found at most of the party places. Mahoney's, the Roosevelt and Lefty's will have special holiday menus Saturday.
