Marcus de la Poer Beresford was killed in airplane crash near Bakuva, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012.
Marcus was born in England and lived in India as a toddler, where his father Barney was posted as a diplomat in the RAF. The family's travels next took him to Aden, on the Arabian peninsula, and then to Somerset, England, where he attended preparatory school. In 1966 the family emigrated from England, ending up in the Wood River Valley, where Marcus attended Wood River High School.
The Wood River Valley became the place that Marcus loved best of all. Later, having followed his passion for flying and having become a corporate jet pilot, he often had to leave his home, but his heart was always here with his Bellevue home and his cats.
His last job took him to the Congo, where he co-piloted a Gulfstream jet for the governor of Katanga Province.
Marcus' immediate family is his brother, Nigel, in Ireland, his sister Fiona, in Virginia, his sister Hermione in Hailey and his dear partner, Mary-Anne Diamond.
A service of celebration will be held at Emmanuel Church, 102 Second Avenue S. in Hailey, at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 4.
