Cordeau grabs dual moguls win at Apex

Farrow gets World Juniors nod

It was a sweet Valentine's Day for Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Gold Team members Shane Cordeau and Tanner Farrow.

Cordeau, 25, qualified in first and never looked back—winning a NorAm dual moguls event on Valentine's Day in a field of 54 at Apex, British Columbia, Canada.

It was the first podium on the NorAm circuit this season for the third-year U.S. Freestyle Ski Team "C" Moguls team racer. First in qualifying rounds, the 6-2, 165-pound Cordeau knocked off former World Champion and USST teammate Nate Roberts of Park City, Utah in the round of four.

Cordeau also qualified first in single moguls, setting a course record in the process, but was unable to complete his second run en route to a 12th-place finish. Roberts earned silver in individual moguls and got fourth in duals.

A son of four-time moguls world champ Joey Cordeau, Shane didn't start the dual moguls competition a week ago due to a minor injury, but he bounced bank at Apex.

U.S. Head Moguls coach Scott Rawles said,"Shane did a great job. He was a little banged up after Telluride last week, but he skied super consistent and strong all day. It was kind of a bummer that Nate and Shane had to ski against each other in the round of four."

Cordeau added, "Nate and I grew up skiing together. He used to be quite intimidating, but this time I just blocked out that it was Nate and skied my run."

Meanwhile on the alpine side, the 18-year-old Farrow will be heading back to Europe after being named to the U.S. team for the 2012 FIS Junior World Ski Championships Feb. 29-March 9 at Roccarosso, Italy.

Farrow placed 22nd of 61 finishers, the 11th American and fourth J1 (ages 17-18), in Wednesday's U.S. National Downhill championship race at Aspen, Colo. Ryan Cochran-Siegle and Tommy Biesemeyer were the top Americans, sharing fourth place, as Canadian Louis-Pierre Helie won the overall men's title at Aspen.

National titles for super giant slalom, slalom and giant slalom will be contested March 28-April 1 at Winter Park, Colo. Farrow had placed 22nd and 19th in two NorAm downhills leading up to Wednesday's national downhill.

Other locals in the downhill: Miles Fink-Debray 24th; Miles Sweek 35th; Kipling Weisel 45th (1st J2); Harlan Collins 48th (27th J1); and KJ Savaria 56th (4th J2).
