Keep the airport in Hailey

A large majority of the people who moved to our valley chose to come here with the knowledge that we had a very close, accessible airport in Hailey. If the airport were moved, the difference it would make to our tourism and residents would be major, escalating the difficulty in getting to our valley. This would be very harmful to our community, economy and tourism.

Instead, I believe we need to concentrate on directions that will facilitate bringing tourists and residents into our area as easily as possible to strengthen our local economy of retail, restaurants, hotels, arts, craftsmen and all services we have in our community.

Blaine County and the surrounding counties do not have the population to sustain another regional airport an hour or more away, nor is the major funding and support available from any and all levels of government. The Twin Falls and Boise airports can continue to act in that capacity. There is also the issue of major fog and the lava rock in the suggested areas well past Timmerman Hill.

I am in favor of keeping the airport where it presently is and improving it to the standards necessary to ensure regional jet service to our area.
