Hailey leaders call special airport meeting

Public hearing on relocation and expansion issues

By TONY EVANS

Hailey Mayor Fritz Haemmerle will convene a special meeting of city officials on Monday, Jan. 30, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall to gain insight into Hailey residents' opinions with regard to possible relocation or expansion of Friedman Memorial Airport.

Haemmerle scheduled the meeting to get public input on a number of issues surrounding the airport, including day-to-day operations, alternative site planning and the possibility of jump-starting a federal environmental impact study of alternative sites.

"This is the public's finest hour to appear and let us know what their opinions are," he said.

Councilman Don Keirn, Councilwoman Martha Burke and former Mayor Susan McBryant serve on the Friedman Memorial Airport Authority board.

Hailey officials have prepared for many years to relocate the airport. Those efforts were at least temporarily thwarted last year when the Federal Aviation Administration suspended a study of environmental impacts on alternative airport sites.
