Barrymore adds silver at Killington

Freestyle home event starts today

Sun Valley Freestyle Gold Team member Tai Barrymore, 19, finished second last weekend during the second stop of the Dew Tour at Killington, Vt. It was Barrymore's second podium finish out of three pro level events this season.

Barrymore said afterward, "I feel awesome, this is the first time I've ever been in a Dew Tour final and I'm speechless."

At Killington, phenom Torin Yater-Wallace, 16, double-corked his way to first place (93.7) in Saturday's men's ski superpipe finals—making him the youngest winner in Dew Tour ski pipe history. Barrymore dropped a pair of 9s and a double flat 9 on his second run for a second-place finish (88.5).

Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation coach Ben Verge said about Tai's major amplitude out of the pipe, "He skied very dynamically and found a way to carry speed. Nobody gets more air than Tai."

"Tai has taken his skiing to a new level," said freestyle program director Andy Ware. Third and final Dew Tour stop is Feb. 9-12 at Ogden, Utah.

Barrymore and Verge are in Aspen, Colo. for the 2012 Winter X Games Jan. 26-29. First round of men's skier halfpipe is Friday at 6:30 p.m. with finals Saturday, Jan. 28 at 12:30 p.m.

SVSEF's Colter Brehmer also competed in Killington finishing 14th in quarterfinals.

"Colter ripped his binding off of his ski which ended his day. He's not far behind Tai," said Ware.

Meanwhile, the SVSEF Freestyle Comp Park/Pipe team was in Park City, Utah for the PC Freestyle Classic last weekend. Trevor Hattabaugh claimed a bronze medal in the halfpipe men's overall and was the first M2. Other results were, (overall finish/class):

Ben Parker 4th/2-M3; Perry Boyle 16th/5-M4; Eli Roberts 9th/2-M4; Frederick Grathwohl 12th/4-M4; and Ian Thomas 14th/5-M4. Hattabaugh also led the way in slopestyle. He was second overall and the second M2. Others were Perry Boyle 15th/2-M3, Freddy Grathwohl 23rd/3-M4, Eli Roberts 29th/5-M4, Wilder Curtis 48th/4-M4.
