Knight’s Badgers on top, plus other women’s hockey

In college hockey poll

Sun Valley's Hilary Knight, 5-11 senior forward and captain of the defending national champion University of Wisconsin women's ice hockey team, has her Badgers back on top of the USCHO.com Division 2 women's hockey poll.

Coach Mark Johnson's Badgers (22-2-2) briefly fell from their season-long top spot after a 1-0 loss at the University of Minnesota Jan. 7 and a 4-4 tie at North Dakota Jan. 15. Those two games were at the tail end of an eight-game road streak that dated to Thanksgiving.

The Badgers reclaimed the top spot in mid-January and earned the program's first-ever four-game season sweep of No. 8 University of Minnesota-Duluth (12-11-1) last weekend with a 2-0 Friday win followed by a 4-3 overtime home triumph on Saturday.

Wisconsin awaits another big home challenge Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27-28 when Bemidji State visits the Kohl Center in Madison—the Beavers coming off a hard-fought series with No. 2 Minnesota.

Knight (23 goals, 18 assists for 41 points in 26 games) is the third-leading Badgers scorer behind junior Brianna Decker (27-32 for 59) and senior Brooke Ammerman (22-32 for 54). The Sun Valley skater leads the squad in shots (206), game-winning goals (6), blocks (34) and shorthanded goals (3).

She has played 147 games in her three-year Badgers career.
