Teams will climb Dollar in Randonee Race

On Jan. 28 to help start Nordic Festival

Greet the Sun Valley Nordic Festival in a brand new way by participating in the first “Skin It 2 Win It” Team Randonee Race on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on DollarMountain in Sun Valley.

The first annual event is a fundraiser for the Sawtooth National Forest Avalanche Center. Randonee, telemark and skate skis are allowed.

Members of one-person, two-person or four-person teams will skin up Dollar Mountain and ski back to the start completing as many laps as possible in the five-hour time period.

Sun Valley Resort will groom an uptrack from the start near Quarter Dollar lift, elevation 5,960 feet, to near the top of Elkhorn lift, 6,520 feet. The 1.3-mile course has 660 feet of vertical rise. Races will descend down Forbidden Fruit bowl back to the start line at Quarter Dollar lift.

Organizers will have fruit bars, cookies and hot drinks for racers and a selection of race and raffle prizes. You get bonus points for costumes.

The awards will take place at 4 p.m. the same day at Carol’s Dollar Mountain Lodge. There will be prizes for the fastest teams in each category, fastest lap, most money sponsored and best costumes.

Entry fee is $50 per person. Try to get sponsors (friends or a business) to cover your entry fee. Racers will be offered discounted lift tickets.

Register prior to Friday, Jan. 27 at 5 p.m. at The Elephant’s Perch and Backwoods Mountain Sports in Ketchum. No race day entries will be accepted. Questions, email skinit2winit@gmail.com or visit the
