Speed Series wraps up at Jackson Hole

Farrow on FIS quest in Europe


     Three days of super giant slalom racing wrapped up on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day for 41 Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation alpine racers during the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Wes Barron Speed Series at Jackson Hole (Wyo.) Mountain Resort.

     Sun Valley’s Samantha Busby podiumed with a third place of 55 finishers Monday in the girls’ J3 (ages 13-14) race.

     Girls’ placings for SVSEF: 12—Olivia Wentzell. 13—Madison Milgard. 15—Josie Allison. 17—Alexandra Black. 33—Loni Unser. 35—Margot Griffith. 36—Poppy Ellie Vorse. 50—Royce Rheinschild. 41—Isabella Wright. 52—Hallie MacPherson.

     In Monday’s boys’ SG, also on Moran ski run, Taylor Cooper finished eighth overall (3-J3) and Jay Fitzgerald right behind in 10th place (5-J3). Other J3 placings for SVSEF:

     11—Duncan Fuller. 16—Austin Savaria. 17—Will Snyder. 19—Michael Levy. 20—Gavin Shipley. 24—Kristian DeWolfe. 26—Patrick Riedinger. 30—Wyatt Smith. 36—Trenor Gould. 42—Travis Flynt.

     Fifty of the region’s top J4 (ages 11-12) racers also enjoyed three days of SG racing on Moran as part of the Wes Barron. Of that number, 18 were from the SVSEF. They did well.

     Katelyn Rathfon won the first two SGs and Sage Rheinschild captured the third. SVSEF boasted the top two girls each day and earned eight of nine podium spots. Pilar Pennell captured a pair of third-place results.

     Other top girls’ placings for the SVSEF “C” Travel team: 6—Libby Kaiser. 7—Molly Milgard. 9—Lucy More. 11—Bailey Holter. 14—Libby Lindstrom. 15—Landry Walker. 19—Alyssa Ritzel. 23—Ella Viesturs.

     For the Sun Valley boys, Cooper Dart silver-medaled the first SG and won the Monday holiday race in the field of 25. Jake Blackburn placed 4-6-5. Other top placings: 5—Noah Leininger. 6—Will Griffith. 15—Charlie Stumph. 18—Tobias Verheijen and Mac Mizer.

Farrow races GS, slalom

     SVSEF Gold Team racer Tanner Farrow, 18, competed in his first three International Ski Federation (FIS) races this past week in Europe. He was the top American, in 19th place of 29 finishers, in Sunday’s FIS slalom at Oberjoch, Germany. Farrow was 48th of 58 racers in Tuesday’s FIS giant slalom at Kirchberg, Austria.
