Focus groups help shape Ketchum’s future

Many themes have risen to the top in the initial stages of Ketchum's comprehensive plan update process. But now the city is looking for people to help provide specifics.

Two Ketchum comprehensive plan focus-group discussions will be held today, Jan. 18, at The Community Library in Ketchum.

Topics were gleaned from the comp plan update kickoff in October.

"That was big-picture, visionary work," said Joyce Allgaier, planning manager. "Now, we need to take it from (there)."

Comments the city gathered from that event were organized into central themes, for which participants in today's session will offer specific ideas.

"Now we're starting to ask, what do you think we need to do about these things?" Allgaier said. "Community vitality is really important. What does that mean to you? What does that look like? What does that feel like? What do we need to do to get there?"

In-depth discussions will involve what small-town character means, how to increase community vitality, how to strengthen the economy, ways to build tourism and more.

Attendees can select three topic groups to join, spending 30 minutes in each.

The first session is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a light lunch served. RSVP to 726-7801.

The evening group meets from 6-8 p.m. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m.

"Give us your ideas," Allgaier said. "Roll up your sleeves and help us get there."
