Overtime outcome keeps Morgan’s on top

Yoga stays in hunt with 5-1 win

Winless Sun Valley Auto Club/Grumpy’s gave it all they had behind the fine goaltending of Tony Benson, but league-leading Morgan’s Fine Finishes pulled out a tight 3-2 overtime victory in Tuesday Night Senior Hockey “A” League action.

Dave Hennessy slotted the game-winning goal with 35 seconds left in overtime for Morgan’s. He also had an assist. Jamie Ellison scored twice for the winners, and John Ellison Jr. assisted. The winning goal, also playing well between the pipes, was Pat Ballou.

Ryan Kolquist tallied twice for SV Auto Club including the third-period equalizer.

In Tuesday’s other game at Sun ValleySkatingCenter, Yoga College of India maintained its hold on second place with a 5-1 victory over Lefty’s Bar & Grill. It was scoreless after one period, but Yoga capitalized on its chances to score three times in the second.

Goalie Billy Cook put in an excellent game for Yoga. Lefty’s had its chances, but couldn’t finish and the puck wasn’t bouncing its way. Lefty’s goalie Cody Levitan played well, too.

Yoga goal scorers were Bryan O’Connell (2), Brad Dredge, Blake Jenson and Pete Whitehead. Assists went to Matt Mahoney (2), Dave MacMillan, Mark Belanger, Jenson and Whitehead. Scoring for Lefty’s was Chad Levitan.

Halfway through the season, the standings are:

     1—Morgan’s Fine Finishes (4-1-1 for 9 points). 2—Yoga College of India (4-2-0, 8 points). 3—Lefty’s Bar & Grill (2-2-2 for 6 points). 4—Sun Valley Auto Club/Grumpy’s (0-5-1, 1 point).

On Tuesday, Jan. 17, Yoga plays Sun Valley Auto Club at 8 p.m. and Lefty’s skates with Morgan’s at 9:10 p.m.
