Highway rollover leads to DUI charge

Bellevue man accused of driving under the influence

A 30-year-old Bellevue man faces a misdemeanor DUI charge after wrecking his vehicle last week on state Highway 75 south of Bellevue.

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as Christopher Vygaj. Sheriff's Capt. Jay Davis said Vygaj was not arrested but was issued a citation while being treated for minor injuries at St. Luke's Wood River.

Davis said the accident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on Dec. 19. He said officers were on the lookout for a reckless or drunk driver in the area because of reports from other motorists, and Vygaj was apparently the motorist they were seeking.

Vygaj was southbound when the accident occurred.

"He was rounding the corner ... down by the gravel pits, and he actually ran off the road, overcorrected, slid across the road, hit an irrigation ditch and rolled over," Davis said.

Vygaj was taken to the hospital by Wood River Fire & Rescue ambulance.

Davis said Vygaj was wearing a seatbelt.
