Give the gift of jazz

The Sun Valley Jazz Jamboree won't take place until next fall, but diehards already have their plans made and all that's missing is the tickets.

Consider buying tickets as stocking stuffers at the best price of the year. A five-day event badge is available now for only $110. CD samplers and highlights are available too.

Visit www.sunvalleyjazz.com for details.

Sun Valley's Silver and Gold Ice Show

Celebrate Sun Valley's 75th with a special ice show tonight, Dec. 21, featuring some of the nation's top skaters: Evan Lysacek, 2010 Olympic gold medalist; Sasha Cohen, Olympic silver medalist; Kim Navaroo and Brent Bommentre, two-time U.S. bronze medalists; and many others. The evening's guest announcer will be former Olympian Scott Hamilton.

Fireworks and the Sun Valley Carolers will complete the

celebration.

Tickets are available by calling 622-2135 or visiting www.sunvalley.com.

Annual ski hall of famers chosen

The Ketchum Sun Valley Ski and Heritage Museums announced their 2012 Hall of Fame inductees.

The Alpine Committee has selected Dick Durrance, Warren Miller, Janette Burr Johnson, Pete Patterson and Michel Rudigoz. The Nordic Committee has selected Bill and Annie Vanderbilt, N'tala Skinner, Charley French, Hans Muehlegger and Jenny Busdon.

They will be honored in a ceremony at the Ski and Heritage Museum on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 4 p.m. in a celebration with live music, drinks, a brief presentation and a speech by each athlete honoree.

Nominations are made by committees composed of athletes. Each member chooses people who have excelled in their sport and given back to the greater Sun Valley community.

Gift of acting keeps on giving

A six-week improvisation workshop will explore the comedy of everyday life. Using a variety of games, exercises, character studies, monologues and audience suggestions, scenes will be created and stories will be told.

Students will learn to tell a story, build a scene and explore a wide variety of personalities.

The class will be taught by Company of Fools artist Andrew Alburger, who has been teaching improvisation for more than 25 years, starting in New York City. He has taught acting and improvisation to all age groups, including the Academy program at Wood River High School and with St. Thomas Playhouse's Company B.

Class dates are Jan. 17, 24 and 31, and Feb. 7, 13 and 21 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., for ages 21 and older. The cost is $110.

For more information, call 788-6520.

Support Crisis Hotline at benefit

One call can save a life. That's the motto of the Crisis Hotline, and thankfully there are a lot of people trained and willing to be on the other end of that phone when a desperate call is made.

Calling in is free; volunteers provide most of the heavy work, but like anything, there are expenses.

Because the holidays can be such a tricky time for people for various reasons, especially the economy, supporters of the organization are having a benefit tonight, Dec. 21, at Cornerstone Bar & Grill in Ketchum.

From 5-7 p.m., Dec. 21, the public is invited to mingle with celebrity hosts Santa, Alex Kuczynski, author of "Beauty Junkies" and Dick Dorworth, author of "The Perfect Turn and Other Tales of Skiing and Skiers" and a 2012 U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame inductee.

Mingle and get tickets for a raffle with a grand prize of four full-day Sun Valley ski passes.

The Crisis Hotline number is 788-3596.
