Dec. 11, 2011, the 39th annual Winterstart cross-country citizen races starting at Galena Lodge 23 miles north of Ketchum—hosted by Galena Lodge, The Elephant's Perch, Blaine County Recreation District and the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation cross-country team. A total 107 skiers, 48 female and 59 male.

Christmas Classic Nordic races this weekend
The Christmas Classic cross-country ski races presented by the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF) are set for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 17-18. Races will be held at Galena Lodge 23 miles north of Ketchum.
This year's event is a U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) national ranking race that is open to USSA and non-USSA competitors alike. Cost is $20 per day for J2 (ages 14-15) and older racers, or $10 for J3 (12-13) and younger. Day-of-race registration is from 9-10:30 a.m.
Interval start freestyle prologue races are Saturday starting at 11 a.m. on courses ranging in distance from 1 kilometer for J5/J6 boys and girls, to 3.3k for J2 through Master Men. Sunday's mass start classic racing at 11 a.m. occurs on 1k to 7.5k courses.
