Sun Valley to be ‘Capital for a Day’

Public can discuss issues with top state officials

By EXPRESS STAFF

Gov. Butch Otter

Wood River Valley residents will have an opportunity to discuss issues with Gov. Butch Otter, members of his cabinet and other senior state officials when Sun Valley becomes Idaho's Capital for a Day on Wednesday, Dec. 21. The event will coincide with the celebration of Sun Valley Resort's 75th anniversary.

Otter brings state government to Idahoans living outside Boise each month by making a different town in Idaho the state's Capital for a Day.

According to a news release from the governor's office, the open meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sun Valley Inn's Continental Room. Otter will join Mayor Wayne Willich and other local leaders for a lunch at noon at the same location. The public is encouraged to attend the lunch, which will cost $10 per person.

Lt. Gov. Brad Little, Secretary of State Ben Ysursa and Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna will also be in attendance. Other officials joining the governor will include the directors of the Idaho Department of Labor, the Department of Health and Welfare, the Idaho Transportation Department, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Correction, the Department of Water Resources, the Idaho Commission on the Arts and the Department of Fish and Game.

Also on hand to help answer questions will be representatives from the State Board of Education and regional representatives from the Department of Parks and Recreation, the State Historical Society, State Police, Department of Lands and the Division of Building Safety.

"There is a unique set of challenges associated with a community like Sun Valley," Otter said. "I look forward to hearing the perspective of those who live, work and raise their families here."
