Gilbert Lee (Gil) Williams, 70, died peacefully in his sleep on Dec. 2, 2011, in Redwood Terrace Health Center, Escondido, Calif., from complications of COPD.
Born Oct. 12, 1941, in New York City, Gil graduated from Occidental College, Los Angeles, in 1964. During his freshman year he fell in love with Nancy Gibson, and they were married July 18, 1964.
Gil was a career officer and pilot in the USAF, stationed at Laughlin AFB, Texas; Mountain Home AFB; RAF bases Lakenheath and Upper Heyford; and Eglin AFB, Florida. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1971-72. After he retired at Eglin AFB in 1986, he worked in financial planning for three years.
He and Nancy moved back to their favorite state, Idaho, in 1993. They split their time between Boise and the Wood River Valley, and moved to Hailey in 2005. Gil developed COPD in December 2010, and this September he and Nancy moved down to lower altitude and into a retirement center in Escondido.
Gil is survived by his loving wife; children, Deborah Ausman (Kevin) of Stillwater, Okla., and Ken (Tarri) of Kent, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
The family gratefully thanks the staff of the Redwood Terrace Health Center and Vitas Hospice for their tender care. Arrangements are under the direction of California Funeral Alternatives. At his request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
