Tipping off his senior year on the basketball court, 6-3 forward Will Brokaw of the Community School was eager to take the ball to the basket during the opening stages of Friday's Cutthroat home debut at the Fish Tank in Sun Valley.

Brokaw was on fire.

He scored all 13 of his team's points in the first quarter and ended up with a game-high 24 points as coach Erik Olson's Cutthroats (1-0) held off the Twin Falls Christian Academy Warriors 47-41. The Cutthroats scored in double digits each quarter with a good team effort.

Brokaw finished the night with three 3-pointers.

Cutthroat senior 6-6 post Henry Rickbeil tallied 5 of his 7 points in the second period as the home team built a 23-15 halftime lead. Rickbeil (9 rebounds, 7 blocks) was a big factor. Sophomore Doug DuFur (7 points, two 3-pointers) and junior Colton Sholtis each hit key baskets in the last three minutes helping secure the win.

Sophomore point guard Taylor Adler chipped in 5 points and soph Jake Flaherty 2. Freshman Eric Miller topped the Warriors (1-1) with 13 points. The Warriors had beaten Camas County of Fairfield 46-33 in their opener.

Olson said, "Twin Falls Christian did exactly what we knew they would do—play extremely hard. They did a great job hanging around when the game could have gone the other way. I would have liked to have seen us put the game out of reach. We had some sloppy turnovers and mental lapses down the stretch.

"But it was a really good learning for our young team, I thought we showed a lot of potential as a group and overall was very pleased with where we are. We did some really good things but also have many things to improve on."

Warriors tip Cutthroat girls

Led by talented 5-7 junior Hanna Glaze, who is averaging 18.3 ppg, the Twin Falls Christian Academy Warriors (5-1) pounced on the young Cutthroat girls 50-22 Friday night.

Glaze (18 points, 13 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assists, 2 blocks) was all over the floor for the visitors. It was a reasonably close game in the first half, the Warriors leading 21-14, but five different Warriors scored in a 19-4 third quarter.

The Cutthroats made 28 turnovers in their first game. Other Warrior producers included senior Amanda Miller (7 points, two 3-pointers) and junior Annie Brown (8 points).

Cutthroat coach Erika Connelly said of her team, "I was proud of the way they played the first half. It was our first game and the first game ever for some of the girls. It was TFCA's seventh game and it just shows how much game-time experience helps players get better. We are excited to play them later in the season."

Junior Ella Marks (12 points, 5 rebounds, 6 steals, 1 block) led the Cutthroats. Other contributors were Taylor Figge (4 points, 6 rebounds), Hannah Dies (6 points, 6 boards, 5 steals, 1 block), Erin Hennessy (7 rebounds), Chloe Chrysikopoulos (2 boards) and Caitlin Sholtis (2 rebounds).

The Cutthroat girls play at Bliss Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by the boys' game at 7:30 p.m. The two teams travel to the Jackpot (Nev.) tournament Friday, Dec. 9—the girls playing at 3:30 p.m. and boys 5 p.m.

Boys' coach Olson said, "The upcoming games and tournaments will be great tests for us. They will give us a taste of what the good teams in our league will be like."
