14 SV5B swimmers rally for Turkey Day

Locals excel at Boise meet

Fourteen members of the year-round Sun Valley 5B Swim Team (SV5B) competed against more than 500 swimmers from 28 teams at the Boise YMCA Thanksgiving Invitational meet two weekends ago.

Coach Brian Gallagher fielded a team from his larger squad, taking 10 girls and four boys ranging in age from 8-17. The USA Swimming-sanctioned competition was held Nov. 18-20 at West Boise Y.

Personal-best times ruled the day for SV5B swimmers.

Clocking exemplary finishes, according to coach Gallagher, were Elizabeth Fry, Olivia Wentzell, Kaedi Fry and Maddie Johnson.

Elizabeth Fry, 17, won the 1,000-yard free in 11:29.71; 14-year-old Olivia Wentzell took the 50-yard breaststroke in 33.45 seconds; and 14-year-old Kaedi Fry won three races—the 50-yard backstroke in 29.71, the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.11 and 200 breast in 2:35.75.

Also, Maddie Johnson, 13, dominated the 50-yard butterfly in 27.97, the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.70 and the 200-yard fly in 2:21.28.
