Around Town

Bellevue book fair on

Looking for a do-gooder Christmas gift? How about a book from the Bellevue Book Fair? The recipient can have a treasured addition to a growing bookshelf and the school library benefits from the purchases.

This year, Books Are Fun, a Reader's Digest company, will bring a selection of books to the school, and the public is welcome to shop.

The fair runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, Nov. 30, and Thursday and Friday, Dec. 1-2, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Handel opera live in HD

Sun Valley Opera and the Bigwood Theatre will co-host the "MET HD: Live" broadcast of Handel's opera Rodelinda starring Renee Fleming on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 10:30 a.m.

The opera is set in Milan and the surrounding countryside in the seventh century and tells the story of the queen Rodelinda, whose throne has been usurped and whose husband has been forced to flee. He returns in disguise after having spread the rumor that he has died. The opera is a story of deception, intrigue, love and the vagaries of politics.

Handel is called the most successful composer in the first half of the 18th century, and wrote Rodelinda in 1725.

Doors open at 10 a.m. and tickets cost $22 general and $20 for seniors, and are available at the box office.

An additional showing will be held Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Liberty Theatre in Hailey, free to students with identification and $3 for non-students.

The film is filled with interviews with students across the country telling their stories and truths about growing up female.
