Recognize Olympic contribution

Recently we had visitors from England who enjoyed sightseeing all the delights of our valley in the autumn. While strolling around Ketchum Town Square, we were very disappointed to note that there is (at least) one glaring omission from the sculpture honoring Olympians who are or have been connected to Sun Valley. That name is James Walter Sedin.

For those who don't know the importance of Jim Sedin's Olympic contribution, in the 1952 Olympics in Oslo, Norway, Jim Sedin scored the tying point in the last two minutes of the hockey match between the USA and Canada, which resulted in the USA's winning the silver medal. It is stated in the 1952 U.S. Olympic Games book, "It is an understatement to say that Sedin, who scored the tying goal, was mobbed by his teammates." Jim went on to be named to the 1952 All World Team.

Jim is not only an Olympic silver medal holder, he and his wife, Mary Louise, continue to live here in Ketchum where they ski, golf, patronize our local stores and restaurants and support many local fundraisers. Jim has also been known to join in ice hockey games locally.

I am so extremely disappointed that our community has failed to recognize Jim's contribution to our nation's Olympic history. Jim is not only a true gentleman, he is an example of what the finest attributes of the Olympic spirit should be. His name needs to be engraved on that commemorative banner. How can this unfortunate omission be rectified?
