Dave Hattula has changed

I have known Dave Hattula for about 10 or 12 years. I have always considered him a friend. We used to talk about him running for City Council when he first moved to Bellevue. I found him thoughtful and considerate of others. He has done very good things for the city before and after being elected to the City Council.

However, I have noticed changes in his personality over the past few years. After listening to him speak at the candidate forum, hosted by the Idaho Mountain Express, I didn't recognize my friend Dave. He has become arrogant, pompous, disrespectful, maligning and contemptuous. Oh, did I mention self-righteous?

I have never seen such negative campaigning in Bellevue polities. Shouldn't you be elected on your own merits, ideas and values instead of attacking the other candidates? He said he had no regard for any citizen groups advising the council on important or other issues. He was quoted as saying it was "his" council. The council belongs to the citizens of Bellevue. I thought there were four other members at this time, plus a mayor. Can't the other members think for themselves? Has he changed "we" to "me"?

He said to the citizens of Bellevue that he and everyone else should do the right thing. What is the right thing, exactly? The world according to Dave?

Most individuals would clean their own closet before looking into another's.

I think this community would like better communication, transparency, accountability, common sense and fairness in city government.

Please vote consciously on Nov. 8.
