Allow mayor to focus on policy

The voters of Ketchum should not miss this opportunity to improve our city government. The advantages are for everyone.

The mayor and council can devote their time to policy-making without the concerns of the day-to-day operations of the city. The city employees have one manager who creates continuity and security and demands their best efforts without political interference. And all the folks that live here get a professional, ethical government that is cost-effective, transparent and encourages their involvement.

There is no risk. After the trial period, the voters can change back to the current system if they choose.

It is disappointing that the Ketchum mayor and council are fighting this. But I can just imagine the reaction if a proposal to improve the procedure in Washington, D.C., were put to a vote. The uproar from the congressmen and senators would be heard around the world. Like Andy Rooney might say: Politicians always like things the way they are.

The choice is clear. Vote yes for the better council-manager form of government.
