City Hall needs local knowledge

The people we elect to plan and manage the direction of our wonderful city answer to us via the ballot box. That's the power of the democratic process. It's still the fairest system of government in existence.

Our mayor and the current counsel members have collectively lived here for a long time. This is important because it means they know this community and the community knows them.

It is foolish to consider recruiting someone from outside this valley to come here and somehow do a better job, and if we went that direction, what's our recourse if we don't like what he or she is doing? We can't vote them out of office.

I've lived here 25 years and certainly remember some city administrations that I didn't always agree with, but on balance, I've admired the people who've stepped forward and volunteered to serve; it's a huge commitment.

I was a member of the original group that planned and built our YMCA. Randy Hall and several of the longer-serving council members represented the city of Ketchum honestly and fairly in our dealings with them.

Communities improve and stay viable through the cooperative efforts of local citizens and local government, not through bringing in an outside gunslinger.
