Peterson carries Mushers to another state title
Camas County senior Katelyn Peterson led a strong Musher team effort that landed a third consecutive State 1A Division 2 volleyball championship for the Fairfield school Saturday night at Lewiston.
The Mushers completed an undefeated 37-0 season with a 25-12, 25-17, 25-8 sweep over Northside Conference rival Dietrich in the championship match of the eight-team tournament. Peterson, headed for the University of Idaho next fall, had about 100 kills in three matches at the state meet.

Schroeder's Camas County Mushers also defeated Garden Valley 25-11, 25-13, 25-18 and Clark Fork 25-13, 25-13, 25-17. The championship match against Dietrich was a rematch of the 2009 title match that started the three-year streak.
Peterson will lead the way for the Northwest All-Stars during the District 4 All-Star volleyball matches today, Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Twin Falls High School gym. Carey School's Micaela Adamson will be a member of the Northeast All-Stars tonight.
Other state volleyball winners last weekend in northern Idaho: 5A, Idaho Falls captured its first title since a three-year state victory run from 2003-05 over Post Falls in four games; 4A, Century of Pocatello repeated as champion in four games over Skyview of Nampa; 3A, Snake River made it two-in-a-row in five games over Fruitland; 2A, West Side went 17-15 in the fifth game for its first title since 1999, over Butte County of Arco; 1A Division 1, Troy earned its ninth state title over Genesee, in four.
Come indoors! Winter sports get started
Player-parent meetings for Wood River High School 2011-12 winter sports have been scheduled for several dates in the next 10 days at the Hailey school, according to John Rade, athletic and activities director.
Wood River girls' basketball players started practices on Monday, Oct. 31. Their parent-player meeting is set for Saturday, Nov. 5 at 10:30 a.m. in the high school commons area. The pre-season jamboree is Tuesday, Nov. 8 at Hagerman and the first game is Monday, Nov. 14 at Kimberly.
Boys' basketball players have their player-parent meeting on Monday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. in the commons area. First practice is Friday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. in the high school gym. The jamboree is Monday, Nov. 21 at Hagerman. First game is Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Kimberly High School.
The boys will also have a varsity retreat Saturday, Nov. 19 at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls.
Wrestlers have their player-parent meeting Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the school's Distance Learning Center. The first practice will take place Monday, Nov. 14. First meet is Wednesday, Dec. 7 at Kimberly.

Fall Game Dinner is Nov. 12
The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation officially kicks off the 2011-12 winter season on Saturday, Nov. 12 with its Fall Game Dinner and Auction.
A popular local celebration to raise funds for the Wood River Valley's youth ski and snowboard teams, the evening of tasty food, fun and fundraising also features an auction and dancing in the Limelight Room of Sun Valley Inn.

Highlights of the event include the exciting live auction, silent auctions, the mystery balloon sales and the Sun Valley season ski or golf pass raffle (raffle tickets available now from any SVSEF athlete).
Once again, the SVSEF is including an online auction with prizes ranging from gift certificates and gear to adventures and nights out on the town. Bids start at $10 and the Auction opened on Nov. 1.
Sunsets hockey in Boise
Competing in the three-team "A Division," the Sun Valley Sunsets women's ice hockey team made the championship game of the ninth annual Sobe Lifewater Harvest Classic tournament held Oct. 28-30 at Ice World in Boise. The Sunsets (1-2-1 weekend) fell 4-1 to Utah Thunder in the final contest.
In the 3-1 Sunsets victory over Team Wyoming 19-and-under Saturday evening, goal scorers were Jen Embree (assist to Edith Iler), Lucy Chubb (Wendy Speth) and Anna Schimelpfenig (Speth). Goaltender Karen Morrison received the Most Valuable Player jacket for her solid play.
Weekend scoring: Speth 0 goals/3 assists, Schimelpfenig 2/0, Christine Davis-Jeffers 1/0, Embree 1/0, Chubb 1/0, Sara Schroeder 1/0 and Iler 0/1. Others on the Sunsets roster were Casey Kelly, Michele Hampton, Sheila Naghsh, Tizz Miller, Christl Holzl, Ashley Hesteness, Trista Ballou, Sarah Benson and Liza Weekes.
Cross-country wax clinics in Hailey
Nordic skiers can learn more about ski waxing during two Blaine County Recreation District (BCRD) and TOKO free clinics offered Mondays, Nov. 7 and 14 from 6-8 p.m. in the Art Room of the Community Campus in Hailey. Bring your skis (and any additional waxing equipment if you have it) for the "hands on" clinics.
