Don’t let them scare you

Anne Corrock became aware of the benefits of the council-manager form of government more than two years ago and has worked with the mayor and council ever since, educating them and attempting to effect a change she felt was good for Ketchum. They committed to exploring the change but didn't follow through, so she initiated a petition and built a strong grassroots campaign to support it.

As I drive around Ketchum I see many residents displaying signs urging a yes vote on the measure. But in the past few weeks, newspaper ads and signs have appeared that try to provoke fear about changing to the council-manager form. You know the ones, "All Risk/No Reward." There's no identifiable entity behind them, only an email address, but the size of the ads and signs indicates that big money is involved. I have a strong reaction when I see faceless money attempting to counter the efforts of real people.

I urge you to look past the propaganda and keep three things in mind: First, the council-manager form of government seems to be a more efficient and professional way of doing business. That's my opinion. I urge you to investigate and form your own opinion based on the facts.

Second, it's silly to say that a change in our form of government would affect hotel policy. There isn't a single candidate for council who would reject a reasonable hotel offer. Not one. It's a non-issue.

Third, you can vote for anyone, including incumbents, and there are some great new candidates.

Do your research. Make good choices. And remember that the reason you hear such noise from the No Party isn't because they're interested in issues. It's because they're interested in power. Don't let them scare you.
