Immigration law is chilling first step

The anti-immigration law in Alabama, HB 56, against Mexican immigrants reminds me of the anti-Jewish decrees of 1933 Germany: Police and the courts no longer protected Jews. These laws were introduced slowly at first. A central office for Jewish emigration was set up. Jews were evicted from their homes without reason and notice. Jews’ radios were confiscated. A Jewish curfew was established. More then 2,000 anti-Jewish decrees were eventually passed in Germany.

I fear this law not because of the anti-immigration view, but because of what it will manifest or mutate itself into in the future. First, it’s anti-immigration, anti-Muslim, then anti-Jewish, then who knows what is next? I feel that people need to take a deep breath and understand what the law is truly about.
