Seniors Ben Stout and Corrine Smith continued to be the Wood River High team leaders during Thursday's Mountain Home Invitational 3.1-mile cross country meet at Canyon Cove Golf Course.

Stout (16:55) placed second to Erik Harris of Twin Falls (16:16) in the boys' varsity race, while Smith (21:21) was fifth overall behind Jerome senior winner Mikesell Clegg (19:51).

Coach Monte Brothwell said, "Corrine had a personal best time and closed the gap with the lead runners.

"The boys had a tough day since half the team was sick. We hope to have everybody back for district starting at 4 p.m. today, Wednesday at Twin Falls Municipal Golf Course."

Today's Great Basin Conference 4A district meet will qualify runners for the State 4A cross country meet Saturday, Oct. 29 at Eagle Island State Park west of Boise. Only three of the six GBC teams qualify full boys' and girls' teams for the state run, and the top 14 individuals qualify as well.
