Absentee voting is under way

Ballots being distributed by county clerk’s office

Express Staff Writer

Voters who do not wish to mark their ballots in person on Election Day may cast ballots early, but a new state law has changed some rules about absentee voting.

Absentee voting began Oct. 12. This year, instead of picking up an absentee ballot at city halls or other locations, voters must obtain absentee ballots from the Blaine County Clerk's Office.

To get an absentee ballot, voters must submit a signed "application for absent elector's ballot" form to the county clerk. Forms may be obtained from the Clerk's Office in the old county courthouse in Hailey, or downloaded off the Blaine County website,

The clerk must receive applications by Nov. 2.

Absentee ballots will be distributed through the Clerk's Office. The clerk must receive ballots by close of polls on Election Day, Nov. 8.

So--called in-person absentee voting may be done at the courthouse until Friday, Nov. 4.

Voters must show a photo ID or sign a personal identification affidavit.

For more information, contact the Blaine County Election Office at 788-5510.
