A 69-year-old Buhl man was killed Monday morning after the truck he was driving slid off a hill on Little Smoky Road about 10 miles north of Fairfield.

A news release from the Idaho State Police Region 4 in Jerome identified the victim as Howard K. Barnes.

According to ISP, the accident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. when Barnes, northbound up a hill in a 1996 Peterbilt tractor pulling an empty cattle trailer, slid off the side of the road. The rig then tipped over onto the driver’s side and slid down the hill.

ISP reported there were no brake or skid marks. Barnes was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The accident was investigated by ISP with the assistance of the Camas County Sheriff’s Office.
