Carey, Dietrich tangle for Sawtooth boast

Bragging rights, league title on the line

It's the biggest game of the 2011 eight-man football season for the Carey School Panthers and Dietrich Blue Devils.

The two Sawtooth Conference North Division co-leaders will clash Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at Carey's Derrick Parke Memorial Field with the league championship at stake.

Reigning State 1A Division 2 champ Carey (6-0, 2-0 league) enters with a 4-0 home record and a 282-22 (47.0 ppg offense, 3.7 defense) scoring advantage including four shutouts.

Dietrich (4-2, 3-0) is nearly as powerful on offense, averaging 42.2 ppg. The Blue Devils have won three straight games including last Wednesday's 55-6 rout over host Richfield.

Nobody is close in the rest of the Sawtooth North. Richfield is 1-5 (1-2 league), Mackay 2-4 (1-1), Clark County of Dubois 2-4 (1-2) and North Valley Academy of Gooding 0-4 (0-3).

Nevertheless the Blue Devils have lost 10 consecutive games to Carey by a combined 482-104 margin since the last Dietrich win, 84-48 in Carey in 2003.

More intriguing is the Sawtooth South race where Castleford (4-2, 3-0) can secure first place with a home win over Murtaugh (3-2, 2-1) Friday and a road win at North Gem (2-4, 2-1) Oct. 21. Still in the hunt are Rockland (2-3, 2-2) and Lighthouse Christian (4-3, 2-2).
