City to host open house on bond

Sun Valley seeking $14.2 million for projects

By REBECCA MEANY

The public is invited to an open house next Wednesday, Oct. 12, to learn about the Sun Valley general obligation bond election, which primarily would fund street improvements.

The approximately $14.2 million bond would pay for projects identified in the city's Five-Year Capital Improvement and Fixed Asset Plan, which is an excerpt from the 20-year Capital Improvement Assessment.

The vast majority of the money would go to rehabilitate city streets and paths, with a smaller amount targeted for fixed assets such as new police cars, fire-fighting apparatus and a snowplow.

If the bond passes, nearly 85 percent of residential streets would be reconstructed, said Street Superintendent Bill Whitesell.

"Most of the residential streets are in pretty poor shape," he said.

Old age, poor drainage and other factors have contributed to deterioration, he said.

Two-thirds of people voting must cast ballots in favor of the bond in order for it to be approved.

Residents may stop in at Sun Valley City Hall anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 12, for information.

For questions, call 622-4438.
