Holidays solution

By CHRIS MILLSPAUGH

Well. It begins. The holiday season is upon us all. It starts this weekend with the annual Trailing of the Sheep celebration followed by Columbus Day and the Sun Valley Jazz Jamboree. At the end of the month, it's time for another raucous Halloween with costumes, candy and a variety of stimulants. Next, in November we have three birthdays, Veteran's Day and the gathering of family and friends for the Thanksgiving weekend, which is usually the beginning of snow.

In December, there's more birthdays, theatrical performances and concerts, shopping, tree cutting and trimming leading to the granddaddy of them all—Christmas Day. Then, more parties and returning gifts all the way up to New Year's Day 2012.

Conservatively, I stand to drop at least two grand. Most of you will spend even more. That's a lot of cash outlay for all of us here in the Wood River Valley who have endured terrible economic times for the past three years.

May I humbly suggest this: "The Holidays This Is All the Much I Have" card. We make one large card listing greetings for all the above-mentioned events to cover the last quarter of the year. Buy some stamps, sign it and send it to all your friends, families, lovers and co-workers and strangers of your choice.

By 2012, you're wallet will be fatter, your bank account will be fuller and there will be no holiday bills filling your post office box. If we all do this together, there will be no guilt or shame involved. We all remembered our loved ones but we didn't pay other people for commercial tokens of holiday cheer.

Happy Holidays, God bless Tiny Tim and nice talking to you.
