The family and friends of Judy Anne Schurman, originally of St. Paul, Minn., are sad to announce that she passed away peacefully early Saturday, Oct. 1, in Ketchum.
She lived in Ketchum part-time over the past decade and loved the mountains. Judy graduated from Whittier High School in Whittier, Calif., in 1959, and subsequently lived for many years in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she raised her family, and she later relocated to Coronado, Calif.
Her passions in life were massage therapy and yoga, and she studied at the Southwest School for Healing Arts in Phoenix, Ariz., as well as in Thailand. She was an independent spirit who loved to travel in the Far East, including Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Laos and Thailand.
She was the eldest daughter of Robert Knapton and Harriet Johnson, of St. Paul, Minn., where she grew up before relocating to California at age 15. Her five brothers and sisters (Roberta, Charles, Susan, David and Douglas) were dear to her and of great comfort during her difficult last months.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Lyn of Coronado, Calif., Pamela Parker of Ketchum,; her son, Leonard Sturgess, of Paso Robles, Calif.; and 14 cherished grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of the Wood River Valley at www.hpcwrv.org. Further memories are posted at www.woodriverchapel.com. A memorial service will be held on Oct. 22 at Coronado beach at sunset.
