A 29-year-old Hailey man was charged with misdemeanor DUI after he allegedly crashed a motorcycle on the bike path in Hailey on Sunday afternoon.

Hailey police reported Monday that Christopher Michael Poggi was also issued citations alleging illegal operation of a motor vehicle on the bike path, failure to register his motorcycle and failure to provide proof of insurance. Under Idaho law, a person can be charged with DUI for operating a motor vehicle intoxicated in any area accessible to the public.

Police Lt. Steve England said Poggi was not arrested because of the possibility of injuries sustained in the crash. England described the injuries as "minor."

England said the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the Baldy View Drive area of southeast Hailey. He said a resident of the area reported the crash and when police arrived, Poggi seemed intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests.

England described the motorcycle as a "small, unregistered Honda dirt bike."
