Thousands of prep runners try the Bob Firman

Warm day at Eagle Island State Park

Very warm autumn temperatures greeted over 2,000 high school, middle school and collegiate runners Saturday, Sept. 24 during the Bob Firman Invitational at Eagle Island State Park near Boise.

The field of runners included some of the best in the entire country. Reigning national prep team champion Arcadia (Ca.) defeated one of the best men's fields in Bob Firman history to capture the Division 1 boys' team title.

Posting the fastest 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) times for the second straight year were Highland of Pocatello senior Dallin Farnsworth (15:45) and junior Katie Knight (18:07) from North Central, Spokane, Wash.

Wood River High School senior Ben Stout finished 35th of 160 runners in the Boys' Elite category. Farnsworth won that class, with Twin Falls senior Erik Harris fifth (15:59) and Stout (16:48) in 35th place, the 11th Idaho finisher. Wood River junior Chase England (17:16) finished 77th of Elites.
