Carey spikers earn a sweep at Fish Tank

Northside volleyball clash

Enjoying one of its best passing and serving nights of the 2011 prep volleyball season, the Carey School varsity knocked off the Community School Cutthroats 25-10, 25-11, 25-15 in a Northside Conference clash Monday night at the Fish Tank.

Senior Micaela Adamson (13 kills, 14 service winners with 4 aces) led the visiting Panthers to their second Northside league victory—coming 11 days after Carey defeated Murtaugh 25-12, 125-14, 25-18 at home.

With her baffling underhanded serve, Carey senior Darby Northcott (6 kills, 15 service winners with 3 aces) also had a successful match.

Other Panther contributors for head coach Kathy Whitworth included junior Jaide Parke (4 kills, 4 service winners with 2 aces), senior setter Nicole Gomez (8 service winners with 3 aces), senior Taylor Castle (3 kills) and junior Morgan Parke (3 kills).

Led by senior Meredith Pintler, the host Cutthroats of head coach Kristyn Rutland put together some spirited rallies Monday night but couldn't withstand the steady play of Carey at the net and on defense.

Pintler (6 kills, 2 blocks, 4 service winners with 2 aces) was a reliable Cutthroat force. Others were sophomore Jolie Blair (2 kills), senior middle blocker Sophia Carkonen (3 kills, 1 block, 2 service winners) and freshman Emily Ehret (4 service winners, 1 ace).

Carey (2-7, 2-5 league) entertains the Community School (0-9, 0-7) on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. on the Panther floor. The Panthers then visit Murtaugh next Monday. The Cutthroats visited Murtaugh Tuesday.
