Stout prevails in Rigby photo finish

WRHS senior runs to third win

Wood River High School senior running star Ben Stout, ranked sixth among Idaho 4A boys by idahoxc.com, is getting used to leading from the front.

In a photo finish, Stout won his third race in four tries so far this season taking the Rigby Invitational 3.02-mile footrace Friday in a field of 75 boys' varsity runners at Jefferson County Lake in eastern Idaho.

Stout (16:13.27) held off Hillcrest of Idaho Falls senior Jake Powell (16:14.10) for the boys' championship on a day when 344 runners, mostly from eastern Idaho, competed in varsity and junior varsity events.

Next up is Idaho's prestigious Bob Firman Invitational Saturday, Sept. 24 at Eagle Island State Park near Boise. It begins at 9 a.m. with collegiate men's and women's races, will stage its high school varsity runs between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Among out-of-state teams expected are Arcadia (Ca.), The Woodlands (Texas), Ogden and Davis (Utah), Monsignor Farrell (N.Y.) and North Central (Wash.). Runners from Wood River, one of the top 4A boys' teams in the state in idahoxc.com ranks, will compete.

There has been a revision in the final varsity boys' point totals for the Sept. 9 Sun Valley Classic. The Wood River boys won the meet with 67 points ahead of second-place Buhl (68) and third-place Burley (69).
