Prepare for the hill climb at Nurge clinic

Thursday at Warm Springs

Bill Nurge will be offering a free "get ready for the Baldy Hill Climb" training clinic for those who plan to participate in this year's 33rd annual hike up the mountain.

The clinic scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 15 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Sturtevants located at the base of Warm Springs will cover pacing strategies, warming-up, poling techniques and "last-minute" training aimed at helping you achieve your personal best time this year.

All ages and abilities are welcome. After the brief talk there will be an optional warm-up and "hard-effort" halfway up the hill (Greyhawk chairlift).

The free event will be supported by Sturtevants Mountain Outfitters and Salomon shoes. There will be hiking shoes to demo and discounts on Salomon footwear.

Salomon is bringing its XR Crossmax Tour to Sun Valley Thursday and is also offering a product clinic with shoe demos, swag and discounts from 1-4:30 p.m. at the Sturtevants store on Main St. in Ketchum.

About his Warm Springs clinic Thursday evening, Nurge wants everyone to come out and "celebrate their fitness" and support the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, which organizes and benefits from the Sept. 24 Baldy Hill Climb.

Nurge has been a fitness trainer in the valley for the past 23 years and is a 12-time winner of Baldy ascent races. He owns a 36:30 personal best in the Baldy Hill Climb and also holds the course record for the Baldy Double (1:51).
