Swanson moves to top of scoring list

For Cutthroat girls’ soccer

With junior striker Ellie Swanson tying the school's all-time career scoring record, the Community School girls' soccer team stretched its winning streak to six games Saturday blanking the Canyon Ridge Riverhawks 6-0 on the Sagewillow Farms soccer field.

Swanson (11 goals) tied Langely McNeal with 51 goals by stashing home the game's third goal on a pretty Cutthroat passing play midway through the first half.

Sophomore midfielder Hannah Dies sent a pass on the left wing to sophomore Whitney Engelmann, who made a lovely cross to Swanson in the box amid two Riverhawk defenders. Swanson one-timed the pass into the net for a 3-0 Cutthroat cushion.

Other Cutthroat scorers were Katie Feldman (2 goals), Gabi Perenchio (2) and Engelmann. The Cutthroats out-shot Canyon Ridge 18-2 and enjoyed an 8-1 edge in corners. Junior keeper Ella Marks (2 saves) wasn't busy, and defenders Erin Hennessy, Sara Runkel, Jordan Fitzgerald and Maddie Caraluzzi continued solid play.

Engelmann (5 goals season) started the scoring, from Swanson, in the third minute. Perenchio (7 goals) left-footed home a pass from Dies at 12 minutes. After Swanson's goal, Feldman added on well-struck shots from outside the box for a 5-0 Cutthroat lead at half. Taylor Figge earned an assist on Feldman's first goal. The second came after a Fitzgerald corner kick. Perenchio's second goal at 58 minutes came after a Feldman corner kick.

The 3A Cutthroats (6-2-0, 4-1-0 league), taking their third straight shutout victory, swept the season series against the two 4A bigger school teams from Twin Falls—Canyon Ridge (3-4-1) and Twin Falls (2-3-1).

Thursday, Swanson tallied her third three-goal hat trick of the season in an 8-0 home win over Filer. Scoring single goals were Perenchio, Dies, Hayley Murach, Chloe Francois and Hailey Rheinschild.

Coach Kelly Feldman's Cutthroats traveled to Wendell (0-3-1) Tuesday and will try to avenge their last loss—4-3 at Buhl Aug. 23—when the Buhl Tribe arrives Thursday, Sept. 15 at Sagewillow Farms for a pivotal game.

Led by striker Skyler Barger, Buhl (6-0-1, 5-0-0 league) has dominated the league so far and added a 5-4 victory over American Falls last Saturday.
